32nd over Missed run-out of Anderson
Corey Anderson had made 33 when, after Grant Elliott pushed the ball to point, he was sent back to the non-striker's end by his partner. South Africa captain AB de Villiers, one of the best fielders in world cricket, was at the bowler's end to take a hard throw on the half-volley but broke the wicket before collecting the ball and was then unable to remove a stump with ball in hand as he made a second attempt to effect a run-out. Anderson went on to make 58, sharing a fifth-wicket stand with Elliott worth 103 runs.

South Africa wicket-keeper Quinton de Kock failed to gather a low throw from Rilee Rossouw and knocked the bails off with his gloves, with Elliott, going for a risky second run, outside of the crease by a distance. Had Elliott been run out for 66, it would have left New Zealand 272 for six.

42nd over Elliott dropped
Elliott, who went on to make a match-winning 84 not out, was on 75 when he tried to pull fast bowler Morne Morkel but got a huge top edge. Replacement fielder Farhaan Behardien was under the ball but, with JP Duminy distracting him as he rushed in from fine leg, dropped the chance with neither man apparently calling for the ball. Had the catch been held, New Zealand would have been 284 for seven, needing 14 to win off the final over.
