London: Scotland's all-time leading wicket-taker Majid Haq has been sent home from the Cricket World Cup after appearing to accuse his team of racial discrimination on social media.

Haq boarded a plane home today for a breach of the team's code of conduct after he was dropped for the team's 148-run defeat by Sri Lanka in Hobart.

According to the BBC, Haq tweeted: "Always tougher when your in the minority!! #colour #race¿, a post which has since been deleted.

In a statement, Cricket Scotland said: "Following a breach of Cricket Scotland's internal code of conduct, international team member, Majid Haq, is travelling home from the ICC World Cup. No further statement will be issued until internal processes have been completed in due course."

Off-spinner Haq, 32, has taken 60 one-day international wickets and also holds his country's appearance record with 209 caps but was left out in favour of Michael Leask for the game against Sri Lanka.

Haq's Twitter account still shows a picture he put up with the words "Make sure everybody in your 'boat' is rowing and not drilling holes when you're not looking. Know your circle".

Haq is reported to be due to serve a three-week ban at the start of the season from his league, the West District Cricket Union, for previous comments on social media.
