Chandu Borde, one of the two surviving members of the selection committee which picked India's 1983 World Cup-winning squad, was disappointed not to see a high quality performer like Robin Uthappa in India's 2014 World Cup 15 that was announced in Mumbai yesterday.

"Uthappa has performed consistently and the selectors should have found a place for him. He also keeps wicket well and could have served as a better second wicketkeeper in the squad," said Pune-based Borde, who was chairman of selectors when Sunil Gavaskar's India won the 1985 World Championship of Cricket in Australia.

Apart from Borde, the 1983 selection committee comprised Ghulam Ahmed (chairman), Pankaj Roy, Hanumant Singh (all deceased) and Bishan Singh Bedi.

Borde was not satisfied with the selection of Ravindra Jadeja, who is yet to fully recover from a shoulder injury sustained during a training session in Australia. "A player must be fit at the time of selection and I firmly believe only fit players should get picked. There is no place for ifs and buts in selection," said Borde.
