Though primary investigations revealed that the workaholic nature of her husband might have forced Sonalika Parcha to take the drastic step, the case got murkier after her family accused her in-laws of mentally torturing her. Based on the complaint, officials from Parksite police station arrested Sonalika’s husband Ravi, brother-in-law Manish, sister-in-law Sarla and mother-in-law Dayavati. Manish had arrived in the city a week ago for Rakhsha Bandhan.

The acused were arrested and booked under sections 498 (enticing or taking away or detaining with criminal intent) and 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance) of the Indian Penal Code.

Inspector Chandrakant Puri of the Parksite police station said, “The victim hails from Delhi. While the incident occurred on Wednesday, her family members arrived in the city on Friday. They lodged a complaint against her husband and in-laws, following which they were arrested the same day. According to her family members, Sonalika’s in-laws would shout at her over petty issues and unable to bear this torture, she committed suicide.”

He added that Sonalika was highly suspicious of Ravi and disapproved of him staying out for long hours due to his professional commitments. “Ravi works as a photographer in the film industry and her insecurities grew as he would leave early in the morning and come home late,” Puri said.u00a0
