As, in many of his Grand Prix races the world over, the 26-year-old drove on an unused road of the Nandi Infrastructure Corridor Enterprise (NICE) Ltd, seated in the very MP4-23 F1 car that he won his maiden World Championship in 2008.
Hamilton was cheered and lapped up by the boisterous crowd as he accelerated within seconds after leaving the pit and raced to the other end in a jiffy on a hot and humid afternoon.
"I've visited India many times over in the last couple of years and it's never been more exciting to be here than now. The inaugural Indian GP is only weeks away and you can really feel the growing passion among the people and the excitement levels continue to build," Hamilton said.
