On the occasion of International Chess Day yesterday, Indian champ Tania Sachdev had an important message for everyone. Sachdev, 30, the youngest and only Indian woman to hold the International Master and Woman Grandmaster titles, insists the game can help people hone their life skills.

"Whether you want to take it up professionally or just as a hobby, chess is a great game to develop your cognitive skills and is a total exercise of the mind. So, give a little time to chess regularly, learn the game and the skills it develops will help you in whatever you decide to do," says the Arjuna awardee.

"Playing chess is great for the brain, feels Sachdev. One should spend some time everyday solving a couple of chess combinations. It keeps the brain working," added Sachdev, who won a gold at the Commonwealth Chess in 2016 and bronze earlier this year.
