India all-rounder Hardik Pandya's father, Himanshu, 69, said he was surprised to see his son scored a century in Test cricket this early in his career — in just his third Test.

"I didn't expect this century so early in his career, but I am confident about his good show as he is improving day by day," Pandya Sr told mid-day from Ahmedabad yesterday.

Batting at number eight, Hardik scored a 96-ball 108 with the help of seven hits over the fence and eight fours.

"I was enjoying the match with the family members on TV, but we did not expect him to score such a T20-like knock to reach his century. The way he played after his 50, was superb. We enjoyed his century," said the proud father.

However, Hardik's attacking knock made Pandya Sr recall the ICCâÂÂÂu00c2u0080ÂÂÂu00c2u0088Champions Trophy final on June 18 in London, where India lost to Pakistan by 180 runs. Hardik was run out after scoring 76 off just 43 balls.

"If Hardik would only have played like he did today against Pakistan in that Champions Trophy final, we would easily beaten them and won thae tournament," he said.
