London: An Indian-origin student was among the five teenagers killed in a "horrific" collision between two cars in South Yorkshire in the UK, police said today.
The 18-year-old Arpad Kore was travelling with his four friends in a Toyota Corolla when their vehicle collided with
another car under foggy conditions, police said. The others who died of their injuries were identified as Bartosz Bortniczak, Blake Cairns, Jordanna Goodwin, and Megan Storey. They were all aged between 16 and 18 years old from the Doncaster area.
Four of them were students in the sixth-form of Danum Academy, in Doncaster, and the fifth, Bortniczak, was a former
pupil at the school. "Blake Cairns, Jordanna Goodwin, Arpad Kore, and Megan Storey were all flourishing in our sixth form," Headteacher Rebecca Staples said.
"They were popular, lively and loved by those who knew them and many students looked up to them within our community," she said. "Arpad Kore was always willing to help and assist at school; he was a totally reliable member of our community, a true gentleman who looked out for everybody. He had a tremendous sense of humour," she added.
Inspector Pete Serhatlic said: "It's absolutely horrific, it's an extremely sad situation." The Toyota and a grey Seat Leon crashed on Saturday night in Conisbrough, near Doncaster.
A 21-year-old man believed to be driving a third vehicle was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving, the BBC reported. Police said the man, from Doncaster, was later released on bail. The scene of the crash is just 100m from the site of a collision in which three teenagers were killed in 2011.
The driver of the Seat, a 45-year-old man from Mexborough, suffered a broken leg. Police believe the five teenagers in the Toyota met up with the driver of this third vehicle at a McDonald's restaurant in Doncaster before the incident took place. But the third vehicle was not a part of the actual collision.
