The low cost carrier IndiGo has decided to close its 'check in' counter 45 to 60 minutes prior to departure on January 26. This comes at a time when the Mumbai airport is on high alert.
Keeping in mind the high security alert due to Republic Day and ongoing congestion in the security hold area, IndiGo has notified its passengers about the change in the closure of check-ins to ensure that flight delays are minimised.
Effective from January 19 to January 31, IndiGo passengers have been requested to arrive 15 minutes prior against the original check-in time.
"6E passengers are requested to arrive 15 minutes prior against the original check-in time i.e. 45 minutes. The early arrival of passengers will enable seamless and hassle-free checking, security and boarding process by the IndiGo staff," stated the spokesperson.
In the view of recent security alert in the country, Air India, on January 11 had also advised its passengers to report three hours prior to the departure time. The airline has also intimated that the passenger baggage may have to undergo more stringent checks at airports.
"To avoid any delays to the flight departures owing to these procedures, Air India has requests passengers to report at the counter well in time for check-in. Though, the latest reporting time for domestic and international flights is 75 minutes and 150 minutes prior before the scheduled departure of flights, it is advised that to avoid inconvenience, passengers may report three hours before the scheduled departure of flight," stated a release by the airline.
Currently, check-in counters for domestic flights close 45 minutes before scheduled time of departure. For international flights, counters close 60 minutes prior to departure. Boarding gates in both cases close 25 minutes prior to departure.
