Officials of the Crime Branch (Unit VII) recently arrested an informer and his female accomplice for housebreaking in Santacruz (East).

Informer, aide arrested in Rs 27 lakh robbery

The two had made away with booty worth Rs 27 lakh from an office in Golibar in August.

Investigations revealed Shakir Haider Sheikh (36) and Gurupreet Kuljeet Singh (20) had several cases of break-ins registered against them. The two will be handed over to the Vakola police station for further investigation. Surprisingly, Sheikh is an informer of Unit VII.

On the day of the crime, Sheikh and his male accomplice had broken into the office and made away with the booty. CCTV footage helped cops to circulate pictures of the thieves. While Sheikh and Singh were arrested, his partner in crime is on the run. Officials recovered an LCD TV, a fridge, watches, glasses, a purse and a Santro car used by thieves to flee the spot after committing break-ins.

A Unit VII official said, “Both the accused are wanted in several other cases in and around the city, mostly suburbs. So far, 12 cases have been opened till date.” u00a0
