Virender Sehwag yesterday said the initial axe during the 2007-08 tour to Australia spurred him on to great things. Sehwag was left out of the 24 probables for India's tour Down Under but later included after Gautam Gambhir was ruled out with a shoulder injury.
"I was very disappointed. Being dropped was a very big thing for me and I decided to prove myself once again," Sehwag said yesterday after receiving the 2008 Castrol Test cricketer of the year award. "I wanted to show I'm good enough to play at this level for long," added the opener, who will miss the Champions Trophy.
The other winners were...
Cricketer of the Year Gautam Gambhir, One-Day Cricketer of the Year MS Dhoni,
Lifetime achievement award: Gundappa Viswanath
