Los Angeles: Two-time Indian Wells winner Maria Sharapova has withdrawn from next week’s BNP Paribas Open through injury.
The world number seven, who won the tournament in 2006 and 2013, has not played since her Australian Open quarter-final exit in January due to an arm injury. She told wtatennis.com:
"I am extremely disappointed that I am unable to compete in this year's BNP Paribas Open. I have been focused on healing my left forearm injury and tried to get my body to be 100 per cent ready to play this event."
