Inking it up!

In recent times, tattooing has gained a lot of popularity all over the world but the art is an ancient one. Considered as Eurasian practice, tattooing has been practiced for hundreds of years. Earlier done using carbon, the art has now evolved and offers a number of options and variations.

Current buzz
A quick stroll around the tattoo studios in the city and you will spot youngsters with tattoos, and ones who are interested in getting inked. Trending currently in the city are theme-based and hippie tattoos. As the summer vacations are on, students find it an apt time to get inked as it helps them get a complete new look for the next year of college.

Large sized tattoos and religious tattoos are popular

One such tattoo enthusiast is Mihir Bundela, who got himself inked recently with a dragon tattoo on his tummy and on his back. “I have always admired Austrian cricketer Mitchell Johnson’s tattoos,” he says. Bundela has just given his standard 12 exams and will be joining senior college in a month or so. “I needed a new and cool look and what is better than getting a tattoo. Now I’m thinking of ways to flaunt it once my college gets started,” he adds.

Coloured tattoos are more in demand these days than the black and white ones. Abstract and complicated designs are also preferred by youth as are large-sized tattoos and religious tattoos.

Saurav Pardeshi of Sabby’s Studio says, “These days, people are not coming to get a random tattoo just for the sake of it. They are more educated about tattoos. Youngsters, irrespective of their gender, want to get inked only after studying the designs thoroughly and choosing a design that matches their personality.”

Customised tattoos high in demand
Customised tattoos are also much in demand as people prefer an original design rather than copying an existing one. Getting an exclusive and personalised tattoo does need a lot of thinking.

Pardeshi explains, “What we notice about Pune is that people from all age groups are demanding customised tattoos. They have a certain theme in mind but don’t know how to turn it into art. The ideation and execution of the designs is done by a tattoo artist.” So, if you are trying to give yourself a makeover, look beyond a haircut or hair colour and consider inking yourself.u00a0
