Los Angeles: "Inspector Gadget" is reportedly heading back to the big screen once again. A live-action version of the beloved classic animated series will be remade by Lin Pictures and Disney with Dan Lin as producer.

According to The Tracking Board website, the film is expected to wash away the existence of the 1999 Matthew Broderick outing, as well as the subsequent follow up with French Stewart, reports aceshowbiz.com.

Classic characters Gadget, Penny and Brain are expected to appear, once again battling their unseen enemy Doctor Claw.

Lin Pictures' president of production Jonathan Eirich will oversee the development alongside Mark Bauch.

The "Inspector Gadget" series originally ran from 1983 to 1986, but remained in syndication into the late 1990s. It centres on a cyborg policeman with a seemingly endless amount of gadgets he can summon by saying "Go-Go-Gadget" before the gadget's name.

It was turned into a live-action movie in 1999 with Broderick as the title character, Rupert Everett as Dr.Claw and Michelle Trachtenberg as Penny among others. Following lukewarm response from fans, a straight-to-DVD sequel was released in 2003 featuring Stewart in the lead role.
