ZAL Colabawala scored St Mary’s SSC’s (Mazagaon) lone goal as the defending champions beat Cathedral & John Connon ‘B’ (Fort) 1-0 to enter the final of the Mumbai School Sports Association (MSSA) Boys U-10 Div II inter-school football tournament at Azad Maidan yesterday.
Zal scored the winner in the 18th minute. He tried extending the lead in the second half, but missed by a whisker. The nine-year-old who was a part of the team that won the title last year hopes to repeat the same this season too.

“It is really good that we have made it to the final. I was a part of the team last season but I wasn’t among the top scorers. This year, it felt nice that I could contribute to my team’s victory. But I couldn’t have been able to score without the support of my teammates,” said Colabawala who has scored 10 goals in the tournament.
All that he hopes for now is they defend the title. “Last year I was just a part of the team that won the title. This year I am the centre forward. But the transformation wouldn’t have been possible without the guidance of my school’s football coaches who ensured that we trained hard for the season. All that we want now is to win the title,” said the Class III student who started playing football as a four-year-old, watching Cristiano Ronaldo.
Bosco in semis
Meanwhile, in the U-8 category, defending champions Don Bosco (Matunga) stormed into the semi-finals with a 4-0 win over Christ Church (Byculla). Zarayus Anklesaria scored a brace, while Meet Muniyal and Andron Christopher added a goal each for Don Bosco.
