Leaving his iPad in his car saved a 38-year-old businessman from having to lose the vehicle to thieves. On January 10, Siraj Nagan’s red Innova went missing from outside his house on Perry Cross Road in Bandra (West).

His Apple tablet was inside the car. The next morning, Nagan, an export trader, lodged a complaint with the Bandra police. He also informed the cops about the Apple device he had left inside the car, and told them that its satellite tracking system was activated.

“Soon after the complaint was registered, we started tracking the device in the car from another Apple device,” said assistant police inspector (API) A Pawar of Bandra police station. “The tracking started at 8 am on Saturday, and the missing property was located at around 2 pm the same day,” the officials informed. As per the tracker, the iPad was revealed to be in Jalgaon.

API Nand Kumar Gaikwad said, “After starting the tracking process, we found that the device was in Jalgaon district. Officials immediately informed the police control room there about the case. Soon, the car was traced. The accused were arrested two days later.”

The accused have been identified as 25-year-old Umesh Jaiswal, a driver by profession, and Krishna Singh, also 25, who works as a watchman and a driver. Both are from Rewa district in Madhya Pradesh. On Monday, they were charged under sections 379 (theft) of the IPC. The duo has a criminal history and many offences lodged against them.
