The new iPhone 6

A day after Apple officially launched the long-awaited iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, Apple's India website announced the date of the latest versions of the smartphones being made available in the country.

While both handsets will be available in the US, Canada, the UK and six other countries from September 19, with their pre-booking starting from September 12, Indians will be able to buy the new iPhones from October 17. There is, however, no clarity about the prices for the Indian market.

Interestingly, October 17 is a revised date with the company having earlier mentioned September 26 as the date when the devices would be made available in the India market.

The iPhone 6 starts at $649 (almost Rs. 39,500) in the US for the unlocked variant, while the iPhone 6 Plus price begins with $749 (Rs 45,500 approximately.). However, the devices are likely to be priced a little more when they officially reach India.

The launch date means the new smartphones will be available in time for Diwali.

Specifications

The iPhone 6 comes with a bigger 4.7-inch (1334×750 pixels) display, while the Plus variant offers a bigger 5.5-inch full HD (1920×1080 pixels) display. Both are powered by the 64-bit A8 processor, and comes with different storage options: 16GB, 64GB and 128GB. There’s a 8MP iSight camera on board with optical image stabilization (limited to the iPhone 6 Plus), a Motion M8 processor for fitness tracking, improved battery time, a faster 802.11ac wiFi, NFC, and Apple Pay, and they’ll run iOS 8 out of the box.

The battery on the iPhone 6 can survive up to 14 hours, while the bigger iPhone 6 Plus’ battery can easily last for more than 24 hours. On the connectivity front, the new iPhones support up to 20 LTE bands with speeds going up to 150 Mbps, faster Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, and NFC.

The iPhones are also thinner than before, with the iPhone 6 measuring 6.8mm and the iPhone 6 Plus measuring 7.1mm.
