Skipper Suresh Raina (35*) and Aaron Finch (33*) put on 61 unbeaten runs for the fourth wicket to ensure their side cross the finish line after Lions openers Dwayne Smith (47) and Brendon McCullum (49) put on 94 runs for the first wicket in just 8.5 overs. The Lions reached the victory target of 172 with 12 balls to spare and seven wickets in hand.
Earlier, Supergiant's scored 171-8 after being put in. Lions drew first blood when Raina took a breathtaking one-handed catch in the slips to dismiss Ajinkya Rahane (0) off medium-pacer Praveen Kumar in the third ball of the match. But their joy was shortlived as Rahul Tripathi and Steven Smith added 64 in 32 balls. At 89-3 in 9.2 overs, Supergiant's looked set for a big total. But Tye, playing his first match this season, had different ideas. The Aussie pacer became the day's second bowler to claim a hat-trick. He went on to pick five wickets for 17 runs.
