IPL 6: Hat-trick hero Amit Mishra sets records galore

Sunrisers Hyderabad leggie Amit Mishra is a league of his own after becoming the first bowler to claim three hat-tricks in IPL on Wednesday.

The 3 hat-tricks also gave him a world record in the Twenty 20 format— he’s the only one to have claimed 3 hat-tricks.

Interestingly, Mishra has now taken three hat-tricks for three different IPL teams — another unique record for the spinner.

Mishra (30 and 4/19) also became the seventh all-rounder to register 30 and bag four wickets in the same IPL game.

The leggie became the first to get three Man-of-the-Match awards in IPL’s sixth season and his sixth overall.

The leggie bowled a spectacular penultimate over, dismissing four Pune Warriors batsmen in five deliveries to help Hyderabad clinch an 11-run win in Pune.

Mishra's victims were Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Rahul Sharma and Ashoke Dinda. He had earlier claimed the prized scalp of Warriors captain Angelo Mathews off the first delivery of the 19th over with Pune needing 14 runs off 12 balls.

Mishra (4/19) took the wickets with his second, fourth, fifth and sixth deliveries off his final over as Warriors collapsed from from 101 for four in the 17th over to 108 all out in 19 overs while chasing a paltry target of 120 runs.

While Mathews (20) was fooled by a flighted delivery and holed out in the deep. Mishra then bowled three consecutive googlies to snap up Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Rahul Sharma and Ashok Dinda for noughts. While Bhuvneshwar was trapped leg before, Rahul and Dinda were clean bowled as they misread the wrong'un.

Mishra's brilliance helped Hyderabad move to second in the IPL standings with eight points from six games.

His previous hat-tricks had come against Deccan Chargers in 2008, while playing for Delhi Daredevils, and then for Deccan against Kings XI Punjab in 2011.

Prior to Wednesday's game in Pune, Mishra was joint with Yuvraj Singh for the most hat-tricks in the IPL – two.

Speaking after the match, Mishra said he had stuck to his basics en route to his third such feat on Wednesday.

"I did not try for any tricks, I wanted to keep it simple. I did not think of any other thing, just bowled to get the wickets and I got a hat-trick," Mishra said after the nail-biting finish.

Asked if there was any discussion before the match on how to bowl to defend the small score of 119, Mishra said, "(Captain) Cameron White said to me that I should go for wickets and I did just that. "It's a great feeling, I am happy to help my team win today. The team is working together, supporting each other," he added.

White, meanwhile, praised Mishra for his sensational performance. "I am not sure what happened, whether it was a freak win or not. We got wickets as and when we needed and then Mishy (Mishra) did his job," he said.
