The game is over on the pitch for now. However, it is raring to go online.

City-backed teams, close finishes and thrill will all be there but with one marked difference the action will be held in the virtual world.

And the players too will be younger than what you have seen for over a month in the Indian Premier League in South Africa.

If you were amazed to see 16-18 years standing up to the contemporary greats of the game, Indian Paddle Pop League will feature players in the age group of 8-12 years.

The applicants were sorted and put in different categories to make six teams Delhi Commanders, Mumbai Chargers, Bangalore Rangers, Chennai Daredevils, Hyderabad Warriors and Kolkata Raiders.

In Delhi, 28,000 kids participated in the competition. The best 100 gamers from the lot were picked and then tested to find the top five.

The five gamers who will comprise the Delhi Commanders team are: Rajat Garg, Samar Kunju, Akash Sirohi and Shivam Sehgal.

They will now go to Mumbai for the final competition to be played on June 7.

The tournament is played on four games based on the Paddle Pop brand character and his new 'Pyrata' adventure theme.

The winning participants and teams stand a chance to appear on Cartoon Network and win Xbox consoles.

One of the Delhi Commanders members Shivam, 12, told MiD DAY: "The competition was really tough as there were a large number of participants and most of the other players were older than me.

But the main competition now lies ahead as we have to play in teams and lift the trophy."

Another team member Rajat Garg, a student of Somerville Noida, said: "I knew that I would make it to the finals as I am into gaming since I was in kindergarten.

Delhi could not win the IPL but I am sure that Delhi Commanders will win the gaming league."

Arun Mehra, Chief Marketing Officer, Zapak, expressed hope that the gaming competition will become an annual summer activity for children.

"Paddle Pop Gaming League is in its second year and we are overwhelmed with the kind of response we got. We are absolutely thrilled. Delhi is a very important market for Zapak.

The city falls among the top 10. We want to develop and nurture the gaming talent in Delhi with the help of such tournaments," Mehra said.
