Versatile actor Irrfan Khan will be starring in Salman Khan's upcoming production, 'Lions of the Sea', an English period drama based on the Komagata Maru incident. According to a report by Mumbai Mirror, the Komagata Maru was a Japanese steamship, on which 340 Sikhs, 24 Muslims and 12 Hindus, all subjects of the British Raj, were travelling in order to immigrate to Canada. Of them only 24 were admitted to Canada and the ship along with the rest were forced to return to India.

Irrfan Khan will play the role of a Sikh man named Gurdit Singh in the film.
The Komagata Maru steamship, which carried the passengers from Punjab, sailed from Hong Kong, another British colony, via Shanghai, China, and Yokohama, Japan, to Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.
'Lions of the Sea' is expected to roll in in 2017, it will have shoot schedules in India, UK, Hong Kong and Canada. This is Salman Khan's third production under his banner after collaborating with Kabir Khan for 'Bajrangi Bhaijaan', in which he played the lead and 'Hero', which saw the debut of actors Sooraj Pancholi and Athiya Shetty.
