The Gujarat government had moved the Supreme Court challenging the state high court order to set up SIT to probe the killings.

The appeal was dismissed by an apex court bench of Justice B Sudarshan Reddy and Justice SS Nijjer.
Ishrat Jahan, a college student from Mumbai, was allegedly gunned down by Gujarat police in Ahmedabad on June 15, 2004. The state police claimed she was linked with a terror outfit.
