Indian intelligence agencies are trying to figure if the country’s most wanted fugitive managed to make it to his brother’s funeral. According to top sources in Mumbai crime branch, several close aids of Dawood were present at the funeral, which took place under a high security cover by ISI and other Pakistani officials.

A source from the department said, “The whole event, right from Humayun’s death to his burial was followed closely by top Indian central agencies and Mumbai police. However, we don’t have any confirmation whether Dawood was present or not. However, we believe that he was.”

Hurried
The source added, “The funeral and burial process was done quite hurriedly. This was to avoid officials from our agencies, who were reaching the place for gathering information.” The officer added, “The burial was done in a kabrastan in Karachi between 5 to 6 am. Humayun was buried after the Fajr namaaz.”

According to sources no commoner was allowed in the kabrastan at the time of his burial. Karachi’s Clifton Road area is a highly secured place and is home to Dawood. Top sources said Anees and Humayun were neighbours living in adjacent bungalows.

Failing health
A source said, “For the past seven years, his treatment was being done at a Dubai-based hospital. However, after his health deteriorated completely he was kept at the Karachi home at Clifton Road. But, he was regularly taken to Dubai for treatment. In the last year his condition worsened. A food pipe was inserted in his stomach. He was just 40 when he died on Thursday.”

Clean record
A top officer from the department said, “Unlike his brother Dawood, Humayun did not have any serious cases against him. He does not have single case against him in crime branch. He was not even involved in the1993 Mumbai bomb blast.”
