A 35-year-old man from Mumbra and ISIS (Islamic State of Syria in Iraq) suspect was detained by a joint team of Maharashtra Anti-Terrorist Squad, Thane Unit and National Investigation Agency late on Thursday night.
The officers who did not reveal the name of the suspect claim that he is a resident of Amrut Nagar in Mumbra and a graduate from a Thane-based college. At present, he is jobless. “A team of investigation agencies were continuously following up on him from the past few months through local sources from Mumbra, as the suspect was active on social networking sites," said officers from ATS.
The ATS had kept a watch on his movement and suspected that he was about to joint the terrorist outfit. “He was detained on Thursday night and handed over to the NIA officers on Friday morning. We have also seized few things from his residence that prove he was active on the social networking sites. Further investigation is on," added the officer.
The operation carried out by the joint team of ATS and NIA was held over the night and those involved claim to have gathered lot of evidence.
