Pune: A touch of class is all it needed from Uruguayan super star Diego Forlan for Mumbai City FC to steal full points from right under the nose of FC Pune City in their own backyard, the Balewadi Sports Complex here yesterday.

Forlan, the biggest draw in the third edition of the franchise-based Indian Super League had a relatively quiet match, but for his deft touches now and then that oozed class.

And one such deft touch in the 69th minute from the 37-year-old striker, a backheel at the edge of the Pune box, found Matias Defederico, who beat Pune goalkeeper Edel Bete to his left with a brilliant placement.

Fifteen minutes later, Forlan went off as his job for the day was done.

Pune pressed hard for the equaliser and their forward Jesus Rodriguez Tato came close twice only to be denied by Mumbai goalkeeper Roberto Volpato.

Then, against the run of play, it was Mumbai's Krisztian Vadocz, who almost made it 2-0 in added time, but Bete somehow managed to push it over the bar.

Mumbai coach Alexandre Guimaraes was all praise for his star striker.

"Forlan did what we wanted him to do. He moved the way we wanted him to and his movement distracted the opposition, so that helped us. It is always difficult at the start, and we also had to manage some different and difficult situations in the last five days.

"Our team was without striker Sony Norde, away on national duty for Haiti and some Bengaluru FC players (including Sunil Chhetri away on AFC Cup duty), so the boys showed tremendous credibility and discipline against a very good FC Pune City team.

"I am happy with the result today, but there is a long way to go," said Guimaraes.
