The teams are squaring off for the first time this season, and KKR start favourites, having won five of their nine matches so far. Gambhir has been leading from the front and his batting this season in particular has been spectacular. His 51-ball 93 against Royal Challengers Bangalore on Saturday was arguably IPL-V’s best knock thus far.
On the other hand, Chennai are faltering because of persisting batting woes and lost by seven runs to Kings XI Punjab on Saturday. Besides Gambhir, Jacques Kallis, Manoj Tiwary and Manvendra Bisla have been among the runs for KKR.
In bowling, they have a fairly good combination starting from Lakshmipathy Balaji, who knows the conditions in Chepauk, Yusuf Pathan and Sunil Naraine. However, Chennai’s top bowlers Doug Bollinger and R Ashwin haven’t replicated their feats from previous IPL seasons.
