Siddharth Trivedi endeared himself to cricket lovers when the Rajasthan Royals medium-pacer decided to become a prosecution witness in the Indian Premier League spot fixing scandal
Trivedi last week recorded his statement under Section 164 of the Criminal Procedure Code at the Saket district courts in New Delhi. According to reports, his evidence would be very important to help Delhi cops, who busted the IPL scandal, nail the Rajasthan Royals trio of S Sreesanth, Ajit Chandila and Ankeet Chavan for their alleged involvement in spot fixing.u00a0

Trivedi, who represents Saurashtra in the domestic circuit, spoke about what made him take the gutsy decision. “I just wanted to defend the game of cricket and my franchise Rajasthan Royals. My motto was to clean up the sport. Whatever I have done is the right thing. It is my duty towards this game,” Tirvedi told MiD DAY yesterday.
Trivedi reportedly will now testify in court about the alleged offer to indulge in spot fixing that Chandila and two other bookies made to him.
“I have always played this game with a lot of passion. I have always played it fairly. Whatever recognition and appreciation I have got is because of cricket. I cannot do any injustice to this game,” said Trivedi, who refused to divulge any information about his statements to the court.
Trivedi, Chandila and Chavan were teammates when they played for Air India. It can be recalled that under-cover reporters of a television news channel had approached Trivedi last year, but the medium-pacer turned down the offer to spot fix matches.
