Ravindra Jadeja produced an all-round performance to help defending champions Chennai Super Kings register their first win in the tournament, defeating Deccan Chargers by 74 runs in an Indian Premier League match in Visakhapatnam on Saturday.

Coming at a crucial juncture, Jadeja first hit a quickfire 29-ball 48 and then scalped five wickets for 16 to put Chennai back to winning ways after they lost the tournament opener against Mumbai Indians by eight wickets.

After Jadeja's show with the bat, West Indian Dwayne Bravo played a special unbeaten knock of 18-ball 43 towards the end to propel Chennai to an imposing 193 for six at Dr YS Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium in Visakhapatnam.

Bravo provided the late burst with some lusty hitting as the visitors piled up 40 runs in the last two overs. He struck five sixes, including three off Manpreet Gony's last over.

Chennai bowlers complemented their batsmen's superb show by bowling out Deccan for 119 in 17.1 overs.

Apart from Jadeja, Shadab Jakati (2/14) and Doug Bollinger (2/20) also chipped in with two wickets apiece.

Chasing a stiff target, Deccan lost two wickets early in the form of Daniel Harris (15) and Shikhar Dhawan (21).

The home side failed to build up any substantial partnership and kept losing wickets at regular intervals.

Openers Harris and Dhawan gave Deccan a good start, adding 32 runs in the first four overs.

Bollinger provided the breakthrough when Harris was caught behind by CSK skipper and wicketkeeper Mahendra Singh Dhoni.

Dhawan too followed suit as he was caught by Bravo off Suresh Raina at deep mid-wicket.

New man in Parthiv Patel (20) made his intentions clear from the outset as he hit Bollinger for two fours in the sixth over.

However, his stay was shortlived as he was cleaned up by Jadeja in the 11th over.

Skipper Cameron White (23) departed in the next over in search of quick runs. He was caught at long—off by Raina off Jakati.

From there on, it was tough ask for Deccan as they lost Bharat Chipli (10) and Daniel Christian (2) in quick succession.

Earlier, sent into bat, Chennai were in for an early shock as left—arm spinner Ankit cleaned up Murali Vijay (2) with a peach of delivery in only the fifth ball of the innings.

New man Suresh Raina showed glimpses of his class with a 12—ball 16 with the help of three boundaries before persishing, caught by Daniel Christian of his own bowling.

But Chennai were dealt a massive blow in the next over in the form of skipper Dhoni (7), who hit one straight to Daniel Harris at mid—on off Dale Steyn bowling.

Jadeja, however, was in no mood to relent as the left—hander struck Christian for two consecutive fours in the 16th over. He then clobbered pacer Sudhindra for a massive six straight over the bowler’s head in the next over.

Jadeja’s quickfire innings came to an end in the 18th over bowled by Steyn when he was out hit wicket trying to clip the ball to short fine leg but his left toe touched the off stump and the bail came off.

Deccan bowlers came in for some harsh treatment from Bravo towards the end as CSK posted the highest total in the tournament so far.
