Jadhav to move HC, says he has never smoked up

Anti Narcotics Cell inspector Anil Jadhav, who was arrested in a rave party bust last month, tested positive for drugs on Friday. He will contest the results in the High Court, his lawyer told Sunday MiD DAY.

On June 27, 290 youngsters, including 59 girls from well-to-do families were arrested after the Narcotics Cell raided a party held in Karjat's Mount View resort, in Raigad district. Large quantities of ganja, charas and cocaine along with Rs 3.08 lakh in cash were recovered from the party.

However, what surprised many of the officials who took part in the raid was finding one of their own at the party. Jadhav later claimed that he was working under cover, although his seniors claimed they knew nothing of his investigation. Jadhav was also arrested for possession of drugs under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985.

Navin Chomal, Jadav's advocate said, "My client has never smoked up in his life, so how can the tests come positive. We will challenge this in the High Court. If he was addicted to drugs then he would not have had cannabis, but would have opted for cocaine or some expensive drug."

Inspector General of Konkan range Param Bir Singh said, "We are investigating and will file the charge sheet in the court." Urine and blood samples of all those present at the party were sent for testing, and the police said they would arrest people whose samples tested positive for narcotics abuse. Of the 300, 68 have tested positive for drugs till now. Some results are still awaited.
