The Borivali school won the district title after a gap of three years and will now represent Mumbai suburban region in the divisional tournament.
In an evenly contested tie, it was striker Jash Shah who opened the scoring for St Francis in the 18th minute via a brilliant header. Seven minutes later, he doubled his goal tally with a long range effort. After that, the St Francis defenders kept Udayachal at bay in the second half to secure a win.
The victory was even more special for Jash as he ended his barren run of five matches with the brace.
“We are lucky to play on our home ground. There are many advantages of playing here — we get to prove our worth in front of our teachers and friends. I was playing well throughout the tournament, but was unable to score. I am glad to score in the final,” said the 15-year-old.
Jash dedicated the win to his father Prashant. “I was planning to stop playing football in June as getting good grades in the board exams is my priority. My aim is to become a doctor and make my dad proud. I am a topper in school, but I didn’t want to take any chances. My dad knows that I love football and he was confident that I could excel in both studies and sport. This win wouldn’t have been a reality without his support,” said the Class X student.
