Composer-singer Jasleen Royal has followed her hit song, Love You Zindagi from Dear Zindagi (2016) with a track in Richa Chadha-starrer Fukrey Returns. Ahead of the film's release, Royal, 26, tells mid-day, "The track is called Peh Gaya Khalara, which means celebrating the mess one has created. It's a wedding-themed song." Interestingly, the song wasn't the result of several hours spent at a recording studio, but, in fact, a conversation over the phone. "I was speaking to my lyricist-friend, Aditya Sharma, who was in Jammu. Since I was sitting with the guitar, I asked him to narrate some lines. As he did so, I kept playing melodies, and we put together this song," says Royal.

Explaining how the uptempo song made it to the film's soundtrack, Royal says, "Azeem Dayani, the music supervisor at Dharma Productions, heard the track and pitched it to the makers of Fukrey Returns. I had recorded it around three months ago. I like the way it has been shot." Having once created waves as an indie musician, Royal dismisses suggestion that Bollywood producers limit the creativity of musicians. "I enjoy the same amount of creative freedom today that I did as an independent artiste. I'm happy with the kind of people I am working with, including Karan Johar, Farhan Akhtar and Nitya Mehra. I couldn't have asked for more."
Royal is currently working on the music of Gulaab Jamun, which is likely to star Abhishek and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. Work on the Rani Mukerji-starrer Hichki and Sunny Deol's Pal Pal Dil Ke Paas has also commenced.
