Giving us a taste of their unique and contemporary style of music this Friday is on the Bangalore agenda of this Chennai-based band

Four friends played music in different bands. One fine day in 2009, they suddenly decided to create good experimental music and The Agenda was born.

Based in Chennai, the band is here to give your weekends a kick-start with the best of contemporary jazz, soul and RnB.

"I think as individuals we have our own agendas as musicians and the name also sums up what we have in common to create fun, intelligent music that has its unique flavour.

Agenda has a more rounded tone with the aim to create a holistic sound," says Sunitha Sarathy, the vocalist of The Agenda.

The Agenda features Sunitha Sarathy on vocals, Matt Littlewood on saxophone, Mishko Mba on bass and Rahul Gopal on drums.

This foursome has been performing for years and have deep roots into various genres of music. However, Sunita says that The Agenda expresses each of their distinct style.

"Though we do varied styles the one element that kept luring us was the love for good music," says Sarathy.

The musicians, who for the first time are performing as a band in Bangalore, promise a concert that will have a perfect blend of original and covers.

"Every city has its good, bad and ugly audience. I love the crowd that comes in at B Flat and it's Bangalore! That's like second home to us Chennaiites," says Sarathy.

"Unlike other cities, our kind of music will be appreciated by true jazz and RnB aficionados here. Not just pretentious socialites who will pop in just to sample the aroma of the event," she adds.

The Agenda's music is not only influenced by the sound of jazz from all across the world but expresses the values and issues of human lives.

Deep, subtle and melodious, the band is all ready to give Bangaloreans a real taste of contemporary music.

Quick five with Sunitha Sarathy

What makes The Agenda work?
Our agenda is music and we are friends. We are honest with each other on what we like and what we don't.

Five favourite tracks you always enjoy (your own or covers)?
As a vocalist I sing what moves me and what I am comfortable with and how I can interpret it. We do have individual traits and I love some of the solos or preludes we come up with. There are quite a few tracks that I like. Difficult to mention particular songs.

Your dream location to perform?
Hmm ufffdthere are so many. I strangely want to play in a planetarium. A great star filled ambience, dim lighting. I think it will be a nice place to perform.

You best and worst moments on stage?
I would like to answer this outside The Agenda. Last year there was a solid crowd of 3, 00,000 people in Sri Lanka, the enthusiasm and the energy was awesome. Most of the audience had travelled far just to be there. This would be my best moment.

Not exactly the worst but after all the glory of a concert, falling into a pit, well was funny. I did go down with an "ahhhhhhh-thud" in Bangalore.

What is lacking in Indian music scene?
Oh my god! Here we go again! Good singers don't want to do anything exciting because we are polluted with shady mamas and their effervescent big daddies. If you know what I mean. People are so afraid to experiment. And don't want to deviate from the norm and churn out the same monotonous stuff. Hey ain't it all about cash rich brothers and Gandhi ji in different colours?? A good project will need the right amount of investment so that everyone gets paid.
