Suspecting her of flirting with others, Ramakant Sontake stabbed 19-year-old Pooja Gaikwad multiple times before dumping her body at a footpath close to her parent's home in Bhandup
Mumbai woke up to yet another gruesome murder yesterday after local residents discovered the body of a 19-year-old woman lying on a footpath in Karve Nagar in Bhandup. The woman, identified as Pooja Gaikwad, had multiple injury marks on her neck, back and stomach, indicating that she had been stabbed to death.

By evening however, the cops had cracked the case following the arrest of Ramakant Sontake, who was identified as the woman’s boyfriend. Sontake confessed to the murder, saying he was angry with Pooja as she flirted with others. Incidentally, Pooja was married to one Rajesh Aware in December 2012 but moved back to her parental home within days, in January. The killer lived next door to the girl’s parents.
The cops had initially detained both men after the girl’s brother Raju Gaikwad lodged a complaint with the Kanjurmarg police, who registered an Accidental Death Report and started investigation.

A police source said, “We suspected that the murder was committed by a person known to the victim. So when her family members suspected Ramakant Sontake of flirtation, we tracked him down.”
