'Jet-setting' housebreaker from Delhi nabbed in Mumbai
The accused used to frequently travel to Mumbai from the Capital to commit robberies; he was caught while attempting to break into a home at Shivaji Park
It’s a tale of two cities, and one desperado. Turns out, a housebreaker apprehended by Shivaji Park police station on Thursday used to travel all the way from Delhi to carry out crimes here. Cops say the accused just finished serving a three-year jail term and went back to business.
The police arrested Salim Abdul Ansari alias Jagga, a former member of the notorious Razia Sultan gang. Razia and her husband Sultan used to come to Mumbai from Delhi to commit housebreakings. But they split, and the gang members -- including Jagga -- went their separate ways.
Jagga carried out a housebreaking on Thursday morning at the residence of Harish Thakkar in Varthak Nagar, Thane who works with Rupee Co-operative Bank, and fled with Rs 1.5 lakh in cash.
After carrying out the robbery, the accused came to Khandke building in Shivaji Park area. “When he was attempting to break the lock of a house here, his previous booty started falling out of his pocket. A young girl saw this and informed the residents of the building, who collared the miscreant,” said Deep Bane, sub-inspector of Shivaji Park police station.
“Jagga used to fly in to the city from Delhi and then perpetrate housebreakings here. He has carried out such crimes in Andheri, Malad and Tardeo in the past,” said Pushpak Ingale, also a sub-inspector of Shivaji Park police station.
