Sooraj was booked by the CBI for abetting Jiah’s suicide (Section 306 of the IPC) and arrested last year. The High Court granted him bail and ordered the police to seize his passport.

On Tuesday, Sooraj’s legal counsel Prashant Patil told Justice Mridula Bhatkar that he wants to travel to Dubai for an event for 10 days, and is ready to follow any instructions given by the court. The bench asked the CBI to reply whether they have a problem with Sooraj travelling abroad, and will likely hear the matter today.

The case
Jiah was found hanging on June 3, 2013. Her mother Rabiya alleged it was not a suicide but a homicide. Sooraj was charged with abetting suicide but the Sessions court trial was halted by the HC after Rabiya pointed out anomalies in investigations. The CBI also opposed the appointment of Rabiya’s former lawyer, Advocate Dinesh Tiwari, as the public prosecutor in the case.
