John Wright is Mumbai Indians head coach

Former India coach New Zealand's John Wright was appointed as head coach of Mumbai Indians Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise for the Season Six that begins on April 3

Wright, a former Kiwi opening batsman, had achieved great success as coach of Team India from 2002-2005.u00a0


“During his time in India, John was instrumental in India’s rise up in the international table including finishing finalist in the 2003 World Cup. In the relatively brief period he had been in charge of the Black Caps, the Kiwis improved upon its performance reaching the semi-finals of the last World Cup,” a Mumbai Indians release said yesterday.

According to the release, Last season’s coach Robin Singh will continue to be associated with the team.

Commenting on Wright’s appointment, Mumbai Indians owner Nita Ambani said, “It’s a great pleasure to have John on board with Mumbai Indians. John is immensely respected and I am sure his cricketing knowledge and experience will be of enormous help.”

This will be Wright’s first assignment in the BCCI-organsied IPL.u00a0
