Newâu00c2u0080u00c2u0088Delhi: Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) joint secretary Amitabh Choudhary and treasurer Anirudh Chaudhry along with senior banker Vikram Limaye will be the Indian cricket board's representatives in the International Cricket Council (ICC) meetings scheduled to take place in Dubai during February 2 to 5. The appointments were finalised by the Supreme Court yesterday during a hearing where the apex body also approved a committee of administrators to run the BCCI.

In the order dated January 30, 2017 it said: "BCCI has to send a nominee to attend the meeting of ICC which is likely to be held in the first week of February, 2017. For the aforesaid purpose, we are of the opinion that three persons, one from the committee of administrators and two from the BCCI shall attend the ICC meeting so that there will be objectivity and transparency. For the aforesaid purpose, we nominate, Amitabh Choudhary, joint secretary, and Anirudh Chaudhry, treasurer, BCCI and Vikram Limaye, managing director and CEO, IDFC Ltd. Needless to say, BCCI shall make all arrangements for and bear the expenses of the same. It is further clarified that these persons have been nominated to attend the ICC meeting only for this time."

At the hearing yesterday, the Court had initially suggested that acting board secretary Choudhury accompany Limaye for the ICC meeting. But BCCI's legal counsel Datar pointed out that as a treasurer Chaudhry had better knowledge of the finances in cricket and hence should also be part of the BCCI team.

The Court also made it clear that it was approving both Choudhary and Chaudhry to travel as an exception and mainly because they had prior knowledge of the BCCI's stand on ICC matters as they had been part of the previous administration. Justice Dipak Misra, part of the three-judge bench, pointed out that it was not giving a "stamp of approval" on their eligibility as officebearers.

The Court's decision on who represents the BCCI at the ICC was of paramount interest to cricket administrators around the world because a number of big decisions that world cricket has been discussing and debating over the last year could be pushed through at the meeting.
