The show will take place at the Ecuadorian embassy, where the WikiLeaks founder has been for two years in order to avoid political asylum from a British court order to extradite him to Sweden over sexual assault allegations.
Westwood said that Assange was a popular hero, so he wanted to highlight Assange’s plight as it was a citizen’s duty to stand up for justice and freedom of speech. The designer found the inspiration for his upcoming collection from the movie The Good, The Bad and The Ugly.
According to a New York Times fashion blog, Richard Hillgrove, a London publicist working on the September Ben Westwood show, has said that Assange’s modelling debut is still under discussion.
