The court sent junior clerks – Ramesh Shelar, Ashok Ranwade, and Chetan Parbhane – to judicial custody. The remaining suspects, including Assistant Registrar of Examinations Rajendra Pandit, Re-evaluation Department Head Lalsingh Wasave, re-evaluation section staffer Surendra Naidu and senior clerk Nanda Pawar, and all the three students — Alamari Hamud, Obed Ahmed (both from Oman), and Mohsin Shaikh — were remanded to police custody.
The Chatushringi police, while seeking the custody of the accused, told the court that they need to interrogate the accused because the scam is deep rooted.
“We believe that the clerks may have indulged in corruption during their tenure in other departments as well. The students’ interrogation too is necessary to find out how and to whom they gave the money,” API Bolkotgi argued in the court. The junior clerks were arrested on January 8, while the remaining seven were nabbed on January 12. Ever since they accused were arrested, they were in police custody.
