Paris: Former France star Just Fontaine will receive a belated Golden Boot for his single-tournament record of 13 goals scored at the 1958 World Cup at the FIFA Congress in Sao Paulo on June 11, he announced yesterday.
"At the time, the 'Golden Boot', didn't yet exist. Adidas invented it later. That's why Fifa have now decided to give it to me 56 years later, because my 13 goals at a lone World Cup still remains unique, at least until July 13," said Fontaine, now aged 80.
Fontaine achieved his remarkable goal haul in just six matches.
