Sacked Mohinder Amarnath reveals last year's arrangement with BCCI as 1983 World Cup teammate Sandeep Patil becomes new chief selector
Mohinder Amarnath finds himself in a familiar situation: Dropped.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) decided not to re-appoint him as a national selector at their Annual General Meeting in Mumbai yesterday.

The man who gave the media one of the best-known quotes in Indian cricket (calling the selectors “a bunch of jokers” in 1988) didn’t react too much to his latest ouster.
The offer
“All I can say is that I am not bothered. I was offered a four-year term (last year) – one year as (ordinary) selector and three as chairman. We will talk about it later,” Amarnath told MiD DAY last evening.
Until late evening, no one from the Board had called to inform him that he had been replaced by former India batsman Vikram Rathour while Sandeep Patil, his 1983 World Cup-winning teammate has been appointed chairman in his maiden stint as national selector.
Bishan Bedi livid
Bishan Singh Bedi, Amarnath’s Delhi and India captain, was livid over his ouster: “This is a stupid decision. This is nothing but a political game played by the politicians within the BCCI. I am put off by this zonal nonsense. We are not in the 1950s, 1960s, 1970s and the 1980s. We are in the 21st century. Why don’t we move with the times?”
Bedi, who was part of the selection panel that picked the 1983 World Cup squad, asked: “Why can’t we have three men of integrity and commitment? Are they so difficult to find?” The spin great however refused to react to talk that Amarnath got the axe because he wanted Mahendra Singh Dhoni sacked as Test captain after eight overseas Test losses. I won’t go into that, but this is sheer politicking,” he said.u00a0
