Now teaches languages in Dubai

Kader Khan has been missing from B-Town for a while now. Though comic capers continue to rule in B-Town and comedy acts rule the small screen, the master of funny lines has decided to let go.

The actor-writer has relocated to Dubai. Khan has been teaching since the past few months at a private institute and hopes to set up his own educational centre later on.

Back to teaching

Before his B-Town calling, Khan, who is a civil engineer, used to teach at the Saboo Siddik Polytechnic at Byculla. He says, "I have gone back to where I started.

But now I am not teaching civil engineering but languages Urdu and Arabic. I am associated with Brands International and hopefully will set up the K K Institute of Arabic Language and Islamic Culture at Knowledge City in Dubai."

His students consist of NRIs who want to stay in touch with the language and culture. "There are professionals, young couples who have shifted here for work reasons and students who want to learn the language.

What I teach is the language and more importantly, the grammar. For the Arabic classes, I teach them not just to read and write but also to translate.

Khan's father Abdur Rehman was a scholar. "He would often attend my lectures and say that he loved the way I taught. My father used to think my method of teaching was unique."

The veteran actor says he is a strict teacher. "There is no talk about his films and Bollywood in the classroom. I don't allow that."

Khan's last film was Umar that released over a year ago. As teaching has always been his forte, when he had this offer, he took it. "You have to keep on doing something in life."

Still writing

Apart from his teaching pursuits, he continues writing. "Nowadays everyone wants to be an actor, no one wants to be a writer." Khan plans to do theatre under his Rangmanch troupe in Dubai and there are also talks for television shows here."

Khan has shifted to Dubai with two of his staff members. "My family is still in Mumbai." His son Sarfaraz is also an actor.

Is he in touch with any of the B-Town folk? "The older folks, not the newer lot," he replies.
