Bengaluru: Kolkata Knight Riders CEO and Managing Director Venky Mysore today said the team management decided to give a shot to K C Cariappa, who fetched a price tag of Rs 2.4 crore at IPL auction, after top players including Jacques Kallis found him extremely talented in one of their training camps.

"Some of the top players that we have including the legendary Kallis found him (Cariappa) to be very unusual and extremely good, and we decided to give him a shot," he told reporters here.

"The auction dynamics are such that the pricing is not in any one's control, but we were in a position to get him. He has got an opportunity. Lets see, how it pans out," he added.

Asked was it a gamble to have bought Cariappa, a player who does not even have first class experience to boast of, Mysore said, "The same question was asked when Sunil Narine was picked by us in 2012 and we were fortunate to have got him. Hope Cariappa does the same, but we are happy to have him in the side."
