Kalyan crime branch nabs two accused of murdering 52-yr-old woman

On Saturday morning, the Kalyan crime branch arrested two men accused of a robbery which resulted in the death of their 52-year-old victim. They have been handed over to the Thane Railway police station.

The incident took place two months ago as the snatcher, who alighted from a slow moving long-distance train near Thane, tried to snatch the victim’s, Shaila Shinpi, handbag. As a result, Shinpi fell off the train and died.

Shinpi, who was returning home from Dhule with her husband, stood at the door of the train at Thane station, preparing to get off. “The train slowed down at a bridge due to the signal and at that time, the robber, Laxman alias Papya Shivaji Khatal (19), got down the train and pulled the woman’s bag. But as the handbag was stuck at her shoulder, she fell down and died.” As her husband witnessed the whole incident, a case of murder was registered at the Thane Railway police station.

The cops allege that the main accused didn’t intend on killing Shinpi, as he called the victim’s residence to inform her relatives of the mishap two hours later, in spite of getting the handbag. Dhumal further added, “The accused didn’t know that Shinpi was travelling with her husband, so he decided to call her family and inform them. After this, he switched off her cell phone and switched it on only when he wanted to talk to his relatives residing in Andhra Pradesh.”

The call data record of the victim’s phone disclosed to crime branch officials that calls were made from Indranagar in Kalwa, which helped them nab history-sheeters Laxman and his accomplice Vishal alias Baeel Ramesh Patil (18).

The two accused have been booked under Sections 392 (punishment for robbery), 397 (robbery, or dacoity, with attempt to cause death or grievous hurt) and 302 (punishment for murder) of the Indian Penal Code.
