Zeenat Aman remembers her 'extraordinary' mother, talks about eloping

Zeenat Aman's Instagram updates give us insights into her life, both personal and professional. Fans appreciate her thought-provoking content and fashion sense, often engaging with her posts. Recently, the 72-year-old actress wrote a heartfelt post about her mother's sacrifices for her acting career and expressed her feelings about her elopement. Zeenat Aman remembers her mother           View this post on Instagram                       A post shared by Zeenat Aman (@thezeenataman) She started her post by acknowledging the beautiful pictures fans send her from yesteryear, "Every Sunday, a dedicated well-wisher sends me old photographs from their archive. Zeenat Aman memorabilia if you please. This Sunday he sent me these two images of my mother, pictured respectively with my father Amanullah Khan and my German stepfather Uncle Heinz." Zeenat Aman further wrote, "There has been no more extraordinary woman in the world than my Ma. She was my safe harbour. She was a woman ahead of the curve. She was gracious, beautiful and whip smart." "After she and my father separated in the 50s, she taught herself business and became a working woman. She sent me to the best of boarding schools and never missed a visit, whence she would come laden with parcels of tuck. When I made up my mind to pursue a career in acting, she gave up her own work to be my manager. She negotiated my contracts, invested my earnings, packed my tiffins, ran my lines, inspired my style, and bolstered my confidence to the nth degree. All this while maintaining her own exciting social life within the expat community in Mumbai." She added. Zeenat Aman further wrote, "Mummy never thought any man was worthy of me ( she was onto something there), and it was the only matter that we ever locked horns on. Even then, if I were ever low, I would crawl into her bed in our apartment off Nepean Sea Road, lay by her side and hold her hand. No words would be spoken, but my turmoil would settle and I would feel secure." Talking about how her mother felt when she eloped, Zeenat penned, "It’s true that I broke her heart a little when I eloped, but it mended with the birth of my first son, who shares a birthday with her. When ma died in 1995, I felt as though a veil of protection was snatched off my shoulders. These pictures are all the more precious to me now that I can only return to her safe harbour in my memories." She concluded her post by asking her fans about their cherished memories, "That’s a little about my mother. Tell me why yours is/was extraordinary?"

I was not getting work as an assistant director. I wanted to become a casting director so that I could reach a film set that way. But then that day when I went to Mehboob, there were 300 to 400 background dancers and I was one of them. It was a beautiful moment. I saw Manish Malhotra, Deepika Padukone, Kalki Koechlin, and Ranbir Kapoor on set. We were given to do a step for Dilliwali Girlfriend. I was trying to hide in the back so that I don’t get seen in the camera, but they kept calling me ahead. That day I had a craving to go and see behind the monitor. I wanted to see how I looked in front of the camera.” Salman Khan's brother-in-law recounts days when he had only Rs 20  Aayush also remembered a time in his life when he had only Rs 20 in his pocket. I had no money for breakfast in the morning, so I was having a roll that night and wondering what I would do for breakfast the next day. That time I got a call for a shoot for stock images in Navi Mumbai. I did that. And when I got that call about Antim’s satellite being sold, I was again in front of that food joint and wondered that from 20 rupees to so many crores.”

When Karan asked them if they thought this show "people into trouble", the two actors said yes in unison. Varun then elaborated that his film producers, who were working with him at the time, were actually scared of his appearance on the show. “I have producers working with me who are scared," he said. Sidharth elaborated that Varun got a 15-minute lecture from a producer about how he should be extremely careful on the show. "We were at the last party… there was a 15-minute long conversation/lecture, more to him (points to Varun),” Sidharth said. Varun added that “people are worried” and asked him to be "careful". "The journey started on 'My name is Khan', we know that Sid was actually doing a feature film which didn't happen, then he decided to become an AD, the chief assistant on the film was Karan Malhotra, the director of 'Agneepath' and 'Shamshera'. He added, "Varun’s story is of course famous in Dharma. First I had met his mom and she said that you know, he wants to assist you. When he had come to meet me. I decided to show him the office, because he was David ji’s son. When we went in, the head of production was Manoj Mitra. We walked in together, Varun was ahead of me so Manoj stood up because he saw me but Varun said baitho baitho. Like Manoj Mitra has got up to see Varun, who no one knows."

Manisha Koirala

Manisha regrets turning down Yash Chopra's film: I was pitted against...

Manisha Koirala is currently gearing up for the release of the Netflix series 'Heeramandi' directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali. She plays one of the leads in the series set in the 1940s pre-independent India. Recently, the senior actress revealed that she regretted rejecting a Yash Chopra film. Talking to India Today, Manisha Koirala revealed that she rejected a film offered to her by Yash Chopra because of Madhuri Dixit's involvement. Manisha said, “One of the regrets that I have in my career is that I didn't do Yash Chopra's film. I was pitted against Madhuri ji (Dixit), and I got scared. I backed out of that project.” However, keeping her insecurity at bay in the years to come, Koirala worked with Madhuri in the film 'Lajja'."Years later, when Raj Santoshi ji offered 'Lajja' to me, I took it because I had done the mistake before. 'Lajja's' story was mind-blowing, it was women-centric, and I was bowled over by the subject. I think when you have a strong maker, and when you are confident in your own skin, the security comes. Also, I had done the mistake of letting go of a major project which could have been a landmark film in my career. I realised I didn't want to do that mistake again because of my silly insecurities. I am so glad I did it. I am so proud of 'Lajja'." Praising the 'Hum Aapke Hai Koun' actress, Koirala said, "Madhuri ji is such a good person and actress. There was no need for me to be insecure. I think when you have a strong actor in front of you, you only perform better. They encourage you to perform better. That comes from age and experience. I loved working with Madhuri ji in that (movie). I loved working with Rekha ji as well.” The role that Koirala turned down was the one played by Karisma Kapoor in 'Dil Toh Paal Hai' alongside Shah Rukh Khan and Madhuri Dixit. The film is a cut classic and also sees Karisma and Madhuri a dance off which is called the 'Dance of Envy'.  Meanwhile, Manisha Koirala will be making her grand comeback with SLB's debut series 'Heeramandi'. She plays the role of Mallikajaan who rules over an elite house of courtesans.  She schemes, fearing no one — until the return of her late nemesis’ daughter, Fareedan (Sonakshi Sinha), brings tensions in the house to a boil. Outside, the city is also roiling, with revolutionaries demanding India’s freedom from British rule, with Bibbojaan (Aditi Rao Hydari), one of Mallikajaan’s daughters, joining the fight for freedom. Meanwhile, Mallikajaan’s youngest, Alamzeb (Sharmin Segal), dreams of love with the son of a nawab (nobleman), Tajdar (Taha Shah Badussha), and yearns to break out of Heeramandi.
