Karishma's up there

Though many Indian women wish that they were leggy lasses, here's one who wishes to be one-and-a-half inch shorter. Actress Karishma Tanna, who stands tall at 5 ft 8.5 inches, says if granted a wish she'd opt to shorten her height to 5 ft 7 inches. Busy with a film down South, Karishma tells CS how her height proves to be a boon as well as a curse:

Tall tales
I face a lot of problems because of my height. Only 20 per cent of Indian men are tall and so my choices get limited when choosing a co-star. But it doesn't really bother me much. My height makes me look good and enhances my personality. I also like the feeling when people have to look up to me while talking!

Small co-actors
I have noticed that people around me are more insecure of my height than I am. Whenever I visit any of my sets, the first statement usually made by a female co-star is 'God why are you so tall?' They pass comments like 'your figure looks enhanced only because of your height.' And though the male actors don't pass any snide comments, they are always concerned that they might end up looking shorter than me. But I never take it seriously and always laugh it off. I enjoy the fact that there's something in me that makes people jealous and insecure.

Height matters
I have been denied many roles on the small as well as on the silver screen because of my height. But besides acting, I want to become a successful model. In fact, I was also selected for Lakme India Fashion Week at the first go. I would love to become a cover girl for famous magazines and do a nice photoshoot. But let me tell you that my dream is to work with Aamir Khan, which I know will never be fullfilled unless one morning I get up and find my self two inches shorter!

Stretched South
When I was approached to do a Kannada film, I took up the offer as a challenge. Prem, my male co-star in the film, is extremely comfortable with my height, which comes as a welcome change. He doesn't even mind me wearing heels!
