A 19-year-old girl lost her life, after suffering a cardiac arrest in J&K's Shopian district on Monday. The unfortunate incident took place as security forces were trying to rein in stone-pelting protesters. The victim has been identified as Khushboo Hussian.

According to reports, Khushboo collapsed during clashes between protesters and security forces at Vehil in Shopian district. A police official informed media that she was rushed to the Shopian district hospital for treatment. Unfortunately, doctors declared her ‘brought dead’.

The Kashmir Valley remained shut for the 74th consecutive day on Tuesday with authorities deploying security forces in Srinagar and other districts to maintain law and order. However, there would be no curfew anywhere, the police said.

Two schools were gutted in Shopian and Anantnag districts on Monday.

Police said miscreants torched the schools, while civilians said tear smoke shells fired by the security forces resulted in blaze. All educational institutions, public transport, main markets and other businesses have remained shut.

Some vehicular movement was, however, visible on roads in uptown Srinagar although inter-district public transport did not operate.

A total of 89 people were killed and over 11,500 injured in the ongoing unrest that started on July 9.
