Suicidal paramour and friends were part of the plot to get rid of her husband

Investigations into the "accidental" death of an Infoscion, Umesh Krishnan, in March took a sinister turn yesterday.u00a0

Police have discovered his wife Honey Mary had got her husband killed.

Earlier, the police believed robbers who had entered Umesh's house had accidentally covered his nostrils and mouth with tape, suffocating him to death.

When Banaswadi police managed to crack the case with the help of the call details on Honey's mobile phone, she confessed that she was planning to go abroad and settle down with her paramour (name withheld for investigation purposes).

The story Honey gave out to the police was that a gang of four entered the house, gagged both of them and made away with the valuables. However, inconsistencies in the story made the police suspicious.

What happened

Police found that Honey had fallen in love with a mechanical engineer while pursuing a B.Ed degree at Tirunalveli in 2006.u00a0

He later went to Surat after getting a job there.

In 2008, Umesh and Honey's parents arranged the marriage despite the former saying he wanted time to settle down first.

When the paramour got to know of Honey's impending marriage, he tried to commit suicide. Honey called him at the hospital and promised to continue the relationship and asked him to work out a plan.

The plan

The engineer shared his agony with colleague Bipin Kumar Singh, a doctor from Jharkhand. Bipin promised to end his misery with the help of his journalist friend from Bihar and two others who had come to Bangalore.

They called up Honey, introducing themselves as friends of her paramour and managed to locate the house.

Honey and the four hatched a plot to eliminate Umesh.

As per the plan, Bipin and his friends came to the house in the middle of the night. Honey opened the door and the four tied Umesh, who was fast asleep, and plastered his mouth and nose with cellotape.

They made sure Umesh was dead and later tied Honey's hands and legs and took away some valuables to make it look like murder for gain.u00a0

The trap

A police team started shadowing Honey once the call details confirmed that she was the prime accused. They said, Honey used all her dramatic skills to mislead the family but when they presented her with the list of calls to her paramour and his friends before and after crime, she gave in.u00a0

Police have also arrested Bipin and recovered the valuables. They are now on the lookout for the journalist and the other two who are absconding.
