The car rammed into an oncoming truck that was headed towards the city from Mumbai. The wheels of the truck were dismantled in the impact of the collision. "There is a toll plaza in this area, and drivers tend to pick up speed immediately after leaving the toll centre. So, drivers lose control and accidents occur frequently on this stretch," said Pawar. "In the last couple of months, eight persons have lost their life on this deadly stretch of Kilometer 53 of the expressway."
