Goa police have registered an offence against a youth from Kolhapur in Maharashtra for defaming a girl in Panaji by creating her fake Facebook account

Panaji: Goa police have registered an offence against a youth from Kolhapur in Maharashtra for defaming a girl in Panaji by creating her fake Facebook account.


Ponda Police has booked 21-year-old Pandurang Tejam from Chandgad in Kolhapur Taluka under various sections of IPC and Information Technology Act, a police spokesman said today.


The victim from Goa has accused Tejam of uploading her photographs on the social networking site. He is accused of also sending messages to relatives of the complainant and friends in order to foster personal interaction with her despite of her clear disinterest, the
spokesman said.


"The accused has committed identity theft and defamed the complainant on social media," he added. Police are investigating the case while accused is yet to be arrested.
